Firegarden: Contents & The Journey to its Creation
Gail Langstroth: „At the age of sixteen I met the life, language, and landscapes of the Iberian Peninsula. The great poetic voices of Spain, Jiménez, Hernández, Machado, Lorca, Bousoño came alive for me. I was inspired to learn Spanish so I could read the work of these masters. Over the years I returned to Spain in order to further my studies, to teach and to perform as a eurythmist. In moments of musing while watching the crowd in a café or market place, I began to translate my own lyric poems into Spanish. That joy became my bilingual book firegarden / jardín-de-fuego.
In July, 2017, the NYC-based actor and director David Deblinger wove 19 of the book’s poems into a dynamic performance for myself and Argentinian actress Laura Suárez.“ In the show’s 1 hour 10 minute run we invite the audience on an exhilara-ting immersion into a unique poetic word world. Between moss / devil \ goat / bucket | rage /\ bible || lightning & love we meet. Our hearts open—we leap, we awaken. Audience & performers alike enter the shared soul-turf that makes us human. Firegarden / jardin-de-fuego is an unforgettable language feast: Spanish & English.
Gail over het ensemble Troiscuri: In 2005, after a two-year pause studying ancient languages in a theological seminary, I returned to the stage. This time my guitarist José Miguel Sánchez and I were joined by a Spanish actress. The duo became a trio—therefore Trioscuri became the name of the company. The stage production firegarden / jardín-de-fuego involves the collaboration of three artists: lighting and technical designer, actress/singer, and myself eurythmist/actress/poet. We bear the company name: TRIOSCURI.
